I talk to a friend who went through something similar with her ex-partner.

My experience:

She listens to me and offers some advice. She says that when she was in the same situation, her friends and family minimized it. Since then, she learned that it is actually a strategy of domination. She suggests that I call an organization that specializes in intimate partner violence—she even offers to make the call with me. The support worker I speak to tells me about emergency financial aid options and possible legal aid. She suggests that I get started by creating a file with all the evidence I have of his refusal to pay.

Explanation:

Help from a support worker trained in intimate partner violence is crucial to identifying forms of financial abuse and advocating for your rights. Support workers can also act as an intermediary with other institutions (schools, youth protection services, legal aid, courts) to protect the victim from constantly having to justify herself. Their services are free and confidential.
