My experience:

The warning comes immediately: if I leave with the children without written authorization from their father, I can be accused of parental abduction. Even if I want to leave to protect my children, this choice could come back to bite me. I absolutely have to speak with a lawyer to put a legal strategy in place. But time is ticking… and I have no help.

Explanation:

Bringing your children out of the country without written consent from the other parent can be considered an offence. The abuser can use this to accuse the victim of abduction, amplifying his power and making the legal situation even more complicated. Once again, the system can turn against victims.
