I contact a women’s shelter or a support worker who works with victims of intimate partner violence.

My experience:

The support worker assigned to my case follows up with me regularly. We adapt my safety plan each time my ex-partner tries to contact me.

Explanation:

Support workers at shelters and other external services can provide emotional support that is considerate to your specific circumstances, and help you set up a safety plan adapted to every situation. They can support victims in evaluating the danger level of their ex partner and in making informed decisions.

Working with a support worker helps victims feel less alone and more prepared for various legal, social or institutional next steps that they may take. Breaking their isolation is a key step.
