My experience:

When I meet with them at the station, the officers took my experience and evidence seriously. An investigation is ongoing. For a few weeks, he stops contacting me and I feel like I can finally breathe again.

But one night, I’m coming home from a night out with friends and I notice a car that looks just like his parked at the corner.  I try to tell myself that it couldn’t be him, because of the conditions he has to follow. Still, I’m terrified and not sure if I should call the police.

Explanation:

Despite an open investigation and an active order of non-communication or protection, many violent ex-partners will break these conditions. If this happens, it is crucial to quickly contact the authorities and systematically report every time the abuser fails to respect a condition. Each report carries a certain weight and can lead to serious consequences for the abuser. *Under the Criminal Code, one event that causes a person to fear for their safety or that of a person they know can be considered harassment.
