I block him everywhere and try not to reply anymore.

My experience:

Since I blocked his number and social media, I keep getting more and more calls from unlisted numbers. When I pick up, it’s my ex. I get a barrage of insults or just long silence. I’m going to have to change my number. That means contacting all the services I use to notify them of the change, and hoping he doesn’t find out my new number. Despite all these efforts, he keeps contacting everyone in my social circle.

Explanation:

Harassment can spill over into other platforms (anonymous accounts, emails, blocked numbers, mutual friends, etc.). Silence can sometimes result in an intensification in behaviours of control.

Choosing this option can help limit direct exposure to the abuse, but it doesn’t put an end to the post-separation intimate partner violence. It’s important to talk about it with a specialized support worker. Blocking your ex may be a good reflex, but it shouldn’t be the only action you take. It’s important to document everything and seek help.
