I ask for IT support from my Internet provider or a store that offers that service.

My experience:

The technician suggests that I change my passwords and add two-factor authentication, but once I get home, I still feel unsure. I still feel like I’m being watched. When I look at my phone, my computer, even my router… I’m not sure about anything.

Explanation:

Changing your passwords is a good place to start, but it’s often not enough. It’s also important to check any shared accounts, connected devices, and cloud storage services to which the abuser may still have access. Victims of cyberviolence may still feel unsafe, even in their own homes. Tech support should be paired with support from organizations that specialize in coercive control, because cyberviolence is part of a broad pattern of control.
