Weaponization of the Legal System

It’s been a year and a half since my ex-husband and I got divorced. The divorce was a nightmare—he refused to sign for four years.

We have three kids, who he sees every other weekend. For the past few months, he’s been saying that he wants more time with the kids, but I know he’s not doing it for them. It’s to punish me. Yesterday, my lawyer called to say that my ex filed for sole custody of the children. My legs feel like they’re giving out. I have to sit down. He’s accusing me of failing to respect our custody schedule, of being unstable. He says that my financial situation is too precarious for me to be a good parent. He’s lying, over and over.

What should I do?
  • I speak to my lawyer to set up an action plan.

  • I can’t keep fighting him; I’m exhausted. I feel like he’s never going to stop.

  • I don’t have any money left to pay for my lawyer. I apply for legal aid.
