Control using Technology

After the separation, I was finally ready to rebuild my life. I updated my CV, I sent out dozens of applications. But the weeks went by… and nothing happened. I heard nothing. Not a single email in reply. Something felt off.

One day, I worked up the courage to call a few of the companies.

They told me they’d tried to contact me for an interview. But I hadn’t gotten anything on my end.

I immediately thought of him. He was always good with computers. I checked my accounts and it was clear: he had access to my email. He was reading, deleting, and maybe even replying to my messages.

I felt a lump in my throat. He was still there, in my life. Invisible, but present. Even after the separation, he found a way to keep controlling me.

What should I do?
  • I agree to go the police station, accompanied by a support worker.

  • I speak to a support worker who works with victims of intimate partner violence.

  • I ask for IT support from my Internet provider or a store that offers that service.
