Control using Parenting Decisions
I was in a car accident and have used a wheelchair ever since.
I have an 8-year-old daughter with my ex-partner. After years of control and humiliation, I left him a year ago. We have shared custody, but he refuses any direct communication—unless he’s unilaterally imposing his decisions.
My daughter struggles to express herself and has a hard time being understood at school. During a meeting, her teacher suggested that consulting a speech-language pathologist could be helpful for her.
I did some research and found a practice not far from where I live, but both parents’ consent is needed before my daughter can start sessions there.
I explained the situation to my ex and sent him the information. He writes back, “You’re just looking for problems where none exist. If you ask me, your legs aren’t the only thing that you lost the use of after the accident—it’s clearly affected your brain, too.”
What should I do?
